Despite the fact that many users have already upgraded their devices, the Nokia S40 platform supports many common devices. Below is a list of the phones that will be affected by the change:

Of these, the last phone produced that runs on S40 is the Nokia 515 back in 2013. Phones that already had the app installed could access it until 31st December 2018 but as of January 1st, they could no longer connect.

In a blog post, the company said, “This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. Those who own a phone powered by this very platform has no choice but to upgrade their device if they wish to continue using WhatsApp.”
The change comes as an inconvenience for mobile users who are not really keen on smartphones and keep phones primarily just to stay in touch with family and friends.
